The Venus Volunteer Fire Department is located in a rural area 30 miles south of Dallas/ Fort Worth, Texas in the eastern edge of Johnson County. We are a volunteer department with 14 active members. We provide 24/7 fire suppression and rescue services out of one station and cover 73 square miles in our fire district with a population of 15,256. The Venus Fire Department was established before the City of Venus was incorporated in 1903. It was ran with donations from the citizens of the city and had one pull cart for firefighting. It is one of the first fire departments in Johnson County. The first actual fire truck was a 1920's Ford Model T with a chemical extinguisher on it. In 1959 the Texas Legislature passed a bill allowing counties to collect fire taxes and the Venus Volunteer Fire Department joined the Johnson County Rural Fire District allowing us to recieve tax money to support our fire department. |
